Ava DuVernay Creating A Series About The Central Park 5 For Netflix

“The story of the men known as Central Park Five has riveted me for more than two decades,”

“In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn – from coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the President of the United States.”

These are the words of Ava DuVernay in a Netflix press release about an upcoming dramatization of the tragic story if the Central Park Five.

Ava will be writing and directing the five-episode drama about the sexual assault case that saw five innocent Black New York teens jailed for up to 13 years in prison and the now President taking a full-page New York Times ad out to call for the execution of Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray and Kharey Wise.

DNA evidence proved these five young men innocent but Trump reportedly still believes they are guilty (yes, this man runs the country!).

The drama will start in 1989 and go through to 2014. This is when the men were officially exonerated of any crimes.

The show will likely arrive on Netflix in 2019.
