I truly believe entrepreneurship and community economics are the keys to future of the Black community. And when it is our youth getting involved, I really get excited. This story is one that really moves my spirit.
Jayden Hammond is the 12-year-old founder of J-Rock’s Pop Gourmet Vegan Popcorn. His company sells organic popcorn made with premium ingredients like organic coconut oil is 100% vegan and organic. It is gluten-free with no artificial ingredients, dairy, GMOs, high-fructose corn syrup, nor preservatives.
Obviously, he was inspired to live a healthy lifestyle thanks to his parents, who did a great job raising him. But Jayden was able to combine his love of homemade popcorn with his passion for social entrepreneurship to make something special. A way for him to build a business while helping others bring a little bit more happiness and healthy foods to their lives.
Jaymond comments, “For years, my family and I have enjoyed vegan popcorn as our favorite homemade snack, especially on movie nights. Since my mom is a health coach and my father is studying to be an acupuncturist, they have trained me and my sister to make healthy choices. So, we like to experiment with our popcorn by using different seasonings and toppings.”
With the guidance of his parents, he decided long ago that he wanted to be a business owner for the rest of my life! “They tell me all the time that it will be best to own my own business so that I can be in full control of my life,” he says.
But remember he is a social entrepreneur, so Jaymond has built in giving back to his business plan. This is why he donates 5% of his profits to help support and fix the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
