The reality of being black in America has become more mainstream over the past five years. Even being rich and famous doesn’t shield you from racism. Over the past few months we’ve seen incidents occur with Kendrick Lamar and LeBron James. Now, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, originally from South Africa, admitted that he’s been stopped by the police 8 to 10 times within the six years that he’s been in America. And, from how he described it, it seems as if he been pulled over by police even during his tenure as The Daily Show host.
He talked about this during the “Between-the-scenes” online segment that was posted on his Twitter, filmed after his televised monologue about the dashcam footage taken of Philando Castile’s murder on yesterday’s episode. He says that he’s been pulled over in a variety of vehicles, even a Tesla. “I don’t know what silent crime I’m on my way to commit, but I’ve been stopped in a Tesla,” he said.
Trevor has been incredibly vocal in the light of injustices against black people since he took over The Daily Show back in 2015. He’s also given a platform to countless black artist, musicians, authors and intellectuals. Trevor has been serving the black community well as the only host of color in this current late night talk show arena (Robin Thede’s talk show on BET is coming out this fall). I suggest you watch him and support the positive things that’s he’s doing!
