BREAKING: Michigan Health Chief Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter Over Flint Water Crisis

Charges against Nick Lyon, head of Michigan’s health department, were announced today, Wednesday 14th June.

He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter over his role throughout the Flint water crisis according to The Associated Press.

The charges were announced in a Flint court on Wednesday, making Lyon the highest-ranking state official charged in connection with the issue.

It’s assumed these charges are related to the deaths of 12 people from Legionnaires’ disease, caused by bacteria from bad water. In this case in the mismanaged water systems of Flint.

Due to the mistreatment of Flint’s water researchers found that these deaths stem from the crisis that began to develop in 2014 and thus far these deaths are the only proven deaths directly related to the issue.

The governor’s office was made away of the Legionella outbreak in 2015 and they decided it was not a serious problem.

So far Nick Lyon is the highest ranking official implicated in the Flint Water Crisis. It was be interesting to see if this case fully develops and if he gets the punishment that he probably deserves.
