This has to be one of the craziest stories I have heard in a while but at the same time it’s super cool! 67 year old King Togbe Ngoryifia Cephas Kosi Bansah works at and owns a mechanic shop in Germany. He moved there in 1970 to train as a mechanic by his grandfather who was at the time King of Hohoe, the Gbi area in Eastern Ghana on the border of Togo, consisting of around 300,000 Ewe people.

Bansah made a life in Germany, married a german women and had two children. Then in 1987 he received a fax detailing that he was crowned the new king!

His older siblings were left handed and in Ewe people rules they could not reign. She he was the next in line!

So what did he do? Well, he maintained his life in Germany and his shop BUT he visits Ghana up to eight times each year and does the bulk of his ruling over skype.

Although Ghana is a democracy, in local communities royalty still have important roles to play.
