New York City’s Girl Scout Troop 6000 is more than your average troop.

It’s a troop exclusively for homeless girls started by Giselle Burgess, a single mother of five who lost her home in August.

She worked with the Department of Homeless Services in order to create the troop in February and has already drawn 20 members.

This troop was made form the girls who live in a Sleep Inn motel with 100 families in Queens.

Burgess says

“Our mission is to instill girls with courage, confidence and character,”

A scout named Sinai said.

“It kind of feels like you’re not alone,”

“It shows you that you’re not the only one who has the same problem.”

The project is funded by The Girl Scouts of Greater New York and they are also accepting donations to keep this amazing program going.
