SHAME ON THEM: Idaho’s Dixie Services Tries To Defend Racist Girl Eating Watermelon Logo

I am beyond appalled at first learning a fully operating open company in the USA today actually used a logo of a charicature (a“pickaninny.

”) black girl eating a watermelon and even more dismayed that the owner is actually defending this crap and trying to claim it isn’t racist.

Idaho-based contracting company Dixie Services’ owner Jim Valentine spoke to ABC affiliate KXLY saying that he felt the image fitted well with his company and that it represented the good times of the 19th century South!

The image appears on the side of the companies trucks, they also have the confederate flag on the front which they also say is historical and not racist!

Valentine said:

“I was looking at it saying, ‘is it the watermelon? Is it her hair?.. And I know why they don’t like it. It’s ‘cause she’s smiling and a very happy child like a lot of children were in the 1800s.”

Regarding the flag, he said:

“This kind of hatred thing that’s been built up around the Confederate flag, there’s a lot of goodness and happiness and it’s a part of history and a part of heritage, so we put the name on our company,”

Things get worse when you realise that Valentine’s wife is West Indian and that he claims to be against discrimination of all kinds. He continued:

“I’m sorry for anyone during that time that was mistreated,”

“Sometimes you hear about the chains and all kinds of horror stories, and I’m sure they’re there and I’m against all of that for any race.”

This man is either completely stupid, an outright racist or unbelievably tone deaf!

Something tells me he enjoys the provocation.
