Are Black Judges Being Targeted and Killed?

by | Apr 21, 2017 | Opinion | 1 comment

Judge Raymond Myles, 66, was shot and killed at his home on April 10th. Then just three days later, the first black woman appointed to New York State’s highest court, Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam, 65, was found dead in the Hudson River.

Police currently have someone in custody for the shooting death of Judge Raymond Myles. Judge Myles came outside after hearing gunshots and a woman screaming. The woman could be heard by a neighbor screaming “don’t kill him.” Why was her life spared but the judge was killed, despite the fact that the suspect was shooting at the woman before he came outside to intervene? Some speculated that it was a robbery gone wrong but nothing was stolen from either victim or their homes.

Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam’s death was initially ruled a suicide. Some of the judges associates told police Judge Abdus-Salaam seemed stressed out or depressed. This information along with her family’s history of suicide, her mother and brother commited suicide, may have led authorities to believe her death was a suicide. The autopsy came back inconclusive as to the cause of death. Police say there were no visible wounds on her body. Now the police are searching for more evidence. They are now saying her death is “suspicious” and have not expanded on why they believe her death is “suspicious.”

Both cases are a bit suspicious. Some may say Chicago is known for its high crime but there are holes in the both cases that will hopefully be filled soon.

It would not surprise me if these two Black judges were set up for assassination. Black people have much to fear in this country now. We need to stop murdering each other and stick together. Nobody at the helm to guide our ship now. You see how they disrespected Obama. It was the most disgraceful and saddening thing that I have seen in my lifetime other than what happened to MLK, JFK, RFK, and others who have sided with Black people. Time to wake up Black people before it’s too late.
