French Actress Named her Bulldog after Black American Entertainer because they Look Alike?

Some people name their dogs after celebrities, right? No big deal, right? They usually name their rough and tough Boxer or Rottweiler Rocky after Sylvester Stallone’s character. They’ll name their cute little Yorkie, Marilyn after Marilyn Monroe. But how would feel if your friend bought a Pitbull and said hey I named my dog after you because y’all look alike?

In France they hosted a show dedicated to cats and dogs named The Toutou Matou Show. French actress, Alice Belaidi, named her dog Jill and when the host asked her why she chose the name Jill she said, “Because it looks like, in my opinion, Jill Scott, the singer.” Then the producer thought it would be a good idea to do a side by side comparison of the French Bulldog and Jill Scott, using one of Jill Scott’s baby pictures. If that’s not beyond disrespectful, I don’t know what is.

Of course the audience and host got a kick out this and thought it was hilarious but many of the viewers watching from home were not amused. The host then attempted to clean it up to say he did not think Jill Scott resembled the dog, to which Belaidi said, they have similar noses.

I would be lying if I didn’t say this rubbed me the wrong way. There is a picture that has been floating around social media for years of Lil’ Wayne in a side by side with E.T. and we all thought it was hilarious, but this right here, pissed me off.

Maybe it’s because Jill Scott is gorgeous and doesn’t resemble a dog in the slightest. Maybe it’s because white people have been comparing us to dogs and monkeys for centuries. Maybe it’s because I’m a black women who is tired of hearing how ugly black women are because of our wide noses, full lips and course hair, just to see non-black women be praised for the same features that are deemed ugly on black women. Maybe it’s a combination of it all.
