New York Magazine is reporting that host Bill O’Reilly has officially been terminated from Fox News following numerous sexual harassment allegations and a mass boycott of Fox News advertisers that led to companies such as Advil, BMW and Mercedes pulling their advertisements. According to sources, exit negotiations are being conducted with O’Reilly and his representation. The O’Reilly Factor has been off air since April 11th due to an impromptu “vacation” by O’Reilly once more allegations against him started to pile up.
Sources close to New York Magazine that were briefed on the story are reporting that there’s a debate on if he’ll even get a chance to have a formal departure, bidding his fans a farewell. Fox executives are against it, debating on just pulling him off the air and replacing his show without any notice on air. Fox seems to be thinking out their actions. O’Reilly is a cash cow for the network and boast the highest viewed cable television show. O’Reilly recently signed a lucrative multi-year that guaranteed him $20 million a year. Fox News might have to go the rout they did with former Fox News CEO Rodger Ailes by giving him a payout of the rest of his contract.
There’s also a discussion on who is going to be replacing him. Tucker Carlson is performing well in the 9 PM slot, as he replaced Megyn Kelly’s The Kelly File after she jumped ship to NBC. However, this would create another void in their schedule. Other names being discussed to take over his time slot are Eric Bolling, Dana Perino, and Tucker Carlson. Sean Hannity, the last big time Fox Pundit standing, is content with keeping his 10 PM timeslot and has no desire to change his position.
It looks as if we’re finally seeing the fall of the propaganda empire that is Fox News. However, the battle isn’t over yet. There’s a new influx of conservative voices that echo the same divisive rhetoric that their older counterparts do. While this knocks them off of their path for the time being, don’t underestimate their ability to bounce back. Tomi Lauren is out of a job after all…
