Her Family Wellness Center Gives Houston’s Uninsured Affordable Health Services

Be the change you want to see in the world. This should be the motto of Kimberly Barrow because that is exactly what she has done with her Houston-based family wellness center.

Kimberly Cares is the vision of the family nurse practitioner who had personal experiences being uninsured and was fully aware of the nightmares that can bring. The organization is a full service primary care office that focuses on providing affordable, basic health care services for patients and families who don’t have health insurance.

Barrow says, “Our nation has millions of families without adequate access to affordable health care. For many it is the difference between groceries or a $150 clinic visit. Treatable conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure often go unmanaged, leading to severe complications such as strokes or loss of limbs, due to lack of coverage.”

Kimberly Cares treats patients ages 12 months and older. The services includes everything from wellness exams, sports physicals, vaccines (which is the source of some controversy these days), daycare physicals, vision and hearing screening, drug screenings, weight management, smoking cessations, STI testing, lab services and more.

There is no doubt the country needs more organizations like Kimberly Cares and people like Kimberly Barrow who don’t want to just complain about the ills of the world, but jump in to solve them.
