First off thank you so much! After reporting that 10 black and Latin X girls had gone missing in 10 days and that at least 25 Black Teen Girls were missing since February it seems the mainstream is talking and something is starting to be done. Your voice is being heard thanks in part to you sharing our articles jointly more the 50,000 times! This is what the internet is for.
This evening, Wednesday 24th March 2017, 93.9 WKYS’ The Fam In The Morning gathered with residents and community leaders to discuss “the epidemic.” of Black and Latinx teens going missing in D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and officials form the Metropolitan Police Department also in attended.
Ward 8 D.C. Council member Trayon White said:
“You can tell by the packed room that this is something a lot of people care about,”
“Over the past couple of years, I’ve been seeing a lot of the postings, hearing from a lot of family members, going to a lot of prayer vigils .There’s been an epidemic of missing persons in the Washington D.C. area.”
“For far too long we didn’t have a clear understanding of what was happening,”
“We didn’t know if this young person was missing . . . Was it sex trafficking? What’s really going on?”
People want answers to a much ignored problem and this town hall is hopefully the start of the issue getting the serious attention it deserves.
“This is phase one to doing something. We’re starting here today. We’re starting the conversation, not just about the problem, but we’re trying to find solutions.”
The facebook live stream can be watched below and again THANK YOU! Your help spreading this issue is doing something good.
