Who doesn’t like to let loose! But of course the carnage we create is our responsibility and these young men and woman stood up and dealt with that!
They had an amazing party and put their feet to the ground to make sure it wasn’t anyone else’s mess to clean up!
So what happened?
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Florida International University saw beach maintenence crews cleaning up the mess after their March 13th party on South Beach and decided it was only fair they chip in!
They worked away getting the beach ready for everyone else and even encouraged others to join in the fun!
Jourman Triana, a member of the fraternity, spoke to the Miami Herald:
“It doesn’t take much to pick up after yourself after partying,”
“You can have fun and also do the right thing.”
This was also about more, a stereotype is in place that the historically black fraternity doesn’t clean up and that the spring break students are a disruption. They knew they were better than that and set to prove so!
Miami Police even tweeted their thanks:
A big thank you to the @FIU spring breakers who stayed last night and helped clean up the beach! #KeepMBClean ? pic.twitter.com/EW0kQbc3hp

This is a trend we hope will stay! Accountability is key and standing up to literally clean up your own mess is an amazing start!
