A few weeks ago Muhammad Ali’s son, a born and raised American citizen, was detained by border guards at a Florida airport and harassed over his religion, according to his lawyers. This incident seems to have spurred him into action and along with his mother he is starting a campaign for Religious Freedom.
Muhammad Ali Jr. and mother Khalilah Camacho Ali have declared a “showdown” over religious freedom against President Donald Trump.
Last Thursday they met with lawmakers in Washington and are calling for an end to the so-called Muslim Travel Ban.
They have launched the “Step Into the Ring” campaign which has teamed up with boxing greats such as Evander Holyfield, Larry Holmes and Roberto Duran to help back the cause.
The hashtag #AliVsTrump was launched and are pushing for a formal hearing.
Camacho Ali told the press:
“There shouldn’t be a travel ban,”
“If I don’t speak up now, they’re going to keep harassing us.”
