Why Are We So Easy to Forgive When the Person We’re Forgiving is White?

We sometimes receive subtle reminders that we are still oppressed and still are not treated as equals in this country.  We can state the obvious about Nate Parker and Casey Affleck but let’s examine how forgiveness can ultimately lead to the demise of our people.

Even after being acquitted Parker is still paying for an allegation from his past. Do I know if Parker actually raped someone? No absolutely not, only the people who were there know what really happened.

What I do know is white people are easily forgiven for rape, molestation, and even murder. These are some of the most heinous crimes in the world and we are always expected to forgive. The white man that punched the young black man in the face at the Trump rally, forgiven. Dylan Roof, forgiven. George Zimmerman, forgiven. The couple that screamed racial slurs and pointed guns at patrons at a child’s birthday party, forgiven. The white high schooler who called a black Indianapolis Colts’ cheerleader a nigger, forgiven. The white teens who sodomized their black mentally disabled teammate, forgiven. Casey Affleck, forgiven.

The sad part about it all is not only does the media perpetuate this ideology that the crimes of white men should be forgiven but crimes (or even allegations) of black men shouldn’t.

What’s worse is black people feed into it. Black ‘feminist” spoke loud and proud about protesting “Birth of a Nation,” which is extremely sad. The message behind “Birth of Nation” should have been heard by all. Black feminist still don’t realize they are embraced by the feminist movement solely for numbers and nothing else. Where were the feminist protesters when Sandra Bland was falsely arrested and later killed?

We, as black people, can clearly see the bias so let’s stop feeding into it. Stop basing your forgiveness on skin color. If you can forgive a white man, you can forgive a black man too!
