Afro-Latina Entrepreneur To Fill Literature Void With Bronx’s ONLY Book Store!

Let’s Bring a Goddamn Bookstore to the Bronx!

An initiative by The Lit. Bar to bring the ONLY bookstore to a borough of over 1.4 million people.

That’s what the Indigogo campaign says, Lit. Bar is the brainchild of Afro-Latinx businesswoman and forward thinking literature fiend Noëlle Santos.

She wants to make sure that the Bronx doesn’t fall off the map and that people still have access to the valuable words on paper that we need to thrive!

The campaign is going STRONG and just needs a little push to reach it’s $100k goal!

Here are more words from the campaign:

In 2014, I joined over 3,000 protesters to save the only bookstore in the Bronx from displacement. This effort by Bronx readers galvanized property owners to extend their lease through 2016, and Barnes & Noble’s Co-op City location has since closed its doors. While my community’s lifeline was up for negotiation, I was somewhere in the South Bronx seizing the opportunity to create a sustainable, more accessible bookshop that addresses the shortcomings of big-box stores–reflecting and serving the unique needs of the communities they operate in–precisely what indies do best!

The Lit. Bar will be a bookstore and wine bar located in the South Bronx. We will offer general interest multilingual books, dope gift items, events, and programs with a particular focus on local and women’s interests. Our venue will encourage curious readers and welcome local art and community gatherings while connecting the great pastimes of social drinking and introverted reading. What better way to loosen our tongues and talk about the books we love? Bronxites and visitors may partake in wines, craft beer and ciders, coffee, and light bites at our bar made of books, chillout in a chic and comfortable environment tailored for reading, creating & discussing, and enjoy a variety of stimulating events including author greets, wine tastings, poetry slams, game nights, and book club meet-ups. Our children’s nook, Kiddie Lit’r, will offer children’s literature, story readings, workshops, and more.

With all the hell the Black community has been catching since the rigged elections not just in Florida and Georgia but many other states across the nation, why is this page recycling old articles?
