The following is a response from an anonymous reader to our previous article posing why you should watch Scandal.
Black people should not support anything that affects our people and community in a negative way. It does not matter how great the writing or how interesting the show is. I guess the writing of the show is good because it shows vividly a great description of the mentality and character of a bed wench. Our people being ratchet is a result of the oppression and the knowledge and identity that was destroyed and stolen from us. So to me being a sell out is way worst than being ratchet. Thus why i feel scandal is worst than love and hip hop. Promoting being a bed wench and interracial relationships is way worst than a ratchet tv show. By no means am i saying love and hip hop is not negative and that it should be supported.
I’m saying being a sell out is worst than being ratchet. We need to learn not to support anybody just because they are black. If we have one of our people selling out and cooning, they need to be ostracized. So no offense i think its ignorant to say support scandal just because it has a black writer,on the contrary we need to stop supporting it even more since the writer of the show is black! She could of wrote a tv show promoting something that promotes something positive into our community, but chose to do other wise.

Original Writers Response:
To answer your final statement…she has, on three previous shows. Black characters have been Chief of Surgery, owners of hospitals, great parents, even brave and courageous doctors volunteering in South America saving lives. Specifically, the shows are Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Off The Map. Beyond writing, this woman is highering us behind the camera, pen and editing machines.
What you don’t see or won’t accept is Scandal didn’t make her. She was big time for the past decade.
