In 2010, officer David Edgmon, 24, was caught on video tape saying some outlandish things to a group of African American men. The former officer of the Little Rock, Arkansas police department tried to have his firing overturned in the Appelate court system, but to no avail fortunately.

From the Examiner: In the incident which cost Edgmon his job, he was arguing with a group of African-American men outside of Ernie Biggs Piano Bar. In the video, Edgmon can be seen and asking the men to quit blowing marijuana smoke in his face. His exact words were that he asked them to quit “blowing weed in my face.

” Taking the infamous route of many career-ending incidents, the video ended up on YouTube.

The reason Edgmon was fired is because a Pulaski County Circuit Court asserted that he was guilty of engaging in conduct that is not becoming of a policeman, and engaging in personal conduct which could end up as criticism for the officer or the police department. Additionally, he was intoxicated in public view which made the matters worse for him.

The officer was doing multiple things wrong, but calling people outside of their name seems to be the death blow for his career. Edgmon called the group of African American men “jigaboos” and then tried to act as if he didn’t realize the word is offensive, but the Police Chief chimed in during the court appearance to state he knew full well that word isn’t to be used.

I have to admit seeing this verdict of firing the police officer being upheld is a bit surprising. Not that he shouldn’t have been fired, but the fact that it  was upheld in this country.

Unless you have had your head under a rock the last few years, there have been a run of racist and terrible behavior pointed in the direction of African Americans in this country. We have been under attacked, but maybe this will be a warning shot to the officers whom are to protect and serve that they cannot continue to treat us in this manner.
