Students Pepper Sprayed and Arrested for Protesting the Presence of Former KKK Member at Their HBCU

Yesterday at Dillard University in New Orleans students were pepper sprayed for protesting the presence of a white supremacist on their HBCU campus. Former KKK leader and United States Senate candidate David Duke was at Dillard University for a debate. Neither students nor media we’re allowed on the premises for the debate. But of course once students became aware of the presence of a former KKK member at their Historically Black College they were naturally upset.

The police said they asked the students to move away from the premises and only use the pepper spray as a last resort. But if the students want to protest, they have every right to protest. The school should be ashamed of themselves for allowing Duke on the premises. Would the klan let Angela Davis speak at their rally?

Dillard University tweeted at 9:30pm stating, ‘No students were attacked for exercising their rights. No students were arrested. Yet reports have shown that six people were arrested during the protest.

It’s a sad day in history when a klansman is allowed on the campus of people he once wish death upon simply for existing. They protect Duke’s freedom of speech and not their own students’, the irony. If Dillard’s enrollment doesn’t decline after this foolery, then we are a major part of the problem.
