LeBron James Marries Longtime Girlfriend Savannah Brinson

LeBron James of the Miami Heat made news this weekend over a ring, but it wasn’t for the NBA Championship. It was for taking that valued step in life and marrying the love of his life, Savannah Brinson, and putting a ring on it.

According to the USA Today source at the wedding, about 200 people gathered in San Diego, California at a hotel for a private wedding. The details are a bit sketchy at the moment as LeBron and his new wife haven’t released any information, but the three day celebration ended with a brunch on Sunday.

James and Brinson, 27, have been together since high school and have two sons. James, 28, proposed just after midnight on Jan. 1, 2012 in Miami Beach, flanked then by many of his teammates — just as he was again Saturday for his wedding.

Intense security measures surrounded the wedding, and even some of the invited guests were unclear on some specific details in the days leading up to the long-awaited event that came less than three months after James and the Heat won their second straight NBA title.

Guests were ushered into the wedding areas under the cover of tents, and television footage taken by news helicopters showed that even umbrellas were used to protect the identity of those arriving. Heat owner Micky Arison, coach Erik Spoelstra and many of James’ teammates including Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were on the guest list.

With so much negative in this world, it is great to be able to report on something as positive as a wedding. Nothing like two people bringing their lives together to create something special together. It is an amazing feeling that cannot really be put into words.

LeBron James is a role model of the highest order in the black community, a title he has not coward away from. He knows there are millions of young people all over the planet watching his every move. Maybe this move, although not on the court, can encourage many in the black community to take that step down the aisle and marry the women in their lives and the mother of their children. We have far too many households raising our children without a man in it.

Hopefully, this step by LeBron can help in a small way to reverse the negative perception of marriage in our community.
