Whether we (the black community) like it or not, EVERYONE has something to say about Black Lives Matter, be it good or bad. So it’s not surprising that Ben and Jerry weighed in as well. Heads are rolling because of their recent comments about Black Lives Matters.

The company released a statement saying they have a “moral obligation” to state their position on such a serious issue affecting America. “We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats,” the post read.

On the company website where the statement was released they also discussed the “systemic and institutionalized racism” that they believe “are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time.”

This was a wonderful gesture by Ben and Jerry to show solidarity and compassion for the black community. As they stated, of course “All Lives Matters” but they won’t truly matter until Black Lives start to matter in this country.

Their statement entitled “Why Black Lives Matter” began so eloquently, “because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers.”

It’s sad that we live in a country where people are angered by the humanization of another race. Since “All Lives Matter” advocates are threatening to boycott Ben & Jerry’s, let’s use our trillion dollar buying power to make sure they are un-phased by the hatred that fuels this country.
