After Replacing Detention With Meditation, An All Black School Has Zero Suspensions

There is no secret that the educational system is failing the black community as a whole. Children are not learning and are just being pushed through a system that isn’t there to support them anyway. But sometimes there is light at the end of the tunnel.

At Robert W. Coleman Elementary school, they have kept an open mind and are committed to change. The type of change that I’m referring to is discipline. Discipline can be a touchy subject as most believe physical discipline is needed in the black community. However, this elementary school is taking a different approach by using meditation.

When a child gets in trouble, they go to the mind room and do yoga and meditate. They also get a chance to talk to a counselor on what there issue is. After they work it out, they go back to class to learn. The results have been awesome. I think this is amazing.
