Gun violence is a serious issue throughout the United States and yet another senseless killing has come to light after Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of NBA star Dwayne Wade, was shot dead in Chicago. He was pushing a baby in a stroller and was not the intended victim.

Seemingly with no tact at all Republican nominee Donald Trump is trying to use this death to rally black voters.

Dwayne took to Twitter and wrote:

My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough

He went onto say “The city of Chicago is hurting. We need more help & more hands on deck. Not for me and my family but for the future of our world. The YOUTH! These young kids are screaming for help!!!”

Dwayne helps his home town through his organisation Wade’s World Foundation, they work with community outreach. This tragic death just highlights that there is so much to be done. His cousin’s shooting is one many. July saw 65 homicides alone in Chicago.

Brave Jolinda Wade stood outside the emergency room after Aldridge was pronounced dead. She help her sister as others prayed and held hands and said:

“We’re still going to try to help and empower people like the one who senselessly shot my niece in the head,… We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction.”

Aldridge had only recently relocated to the area in Chicago’s south side. She was near the school when shots were fired by two men, at another man. She was hit in the fire, in the head and arm. The men are not yet in custody.

While Wade’s family are standing tall addressing the issue head on, Donald Trump is using this, in a terrible way, to try and rally black voters. He wrote on Twitter:

Absolutely disgusting and self serving.

RIP Aldridge. And our thoughts are with the Wade family.
