Developer & Banker Quit Their Jobs to Help the People of Detroit Rebuild Homes & Invest as a Group

This is something totally unusual. Meet the two guys, namely Andrew Colom and David Alade, who left their well-doing jobs to start a new firm in the Motor City.

The two came up with Century Partners firm that develops residential houses. The firm revitalizes neighborhood in the city and also helps its black dwellers in becoming richer.

Andrew used to work as a real estate developer in the city of Mississippi. He had visited Detroit four years ago and that is when he thought of partnering with David in investing in the area.

David on the other hand was a banker in the city of New York and was hesitant about the idea. This was due to the negative things he heard about the place.

He came to change his mind two years later and that is when the two started planning about moving to Detroit. They later came up with Century Partners.

Detroit city neighbors are active investors in Century Partners. The firm buys historic homes that are abandoned in the area and after that, the neighbors invest in their renewal. Rent paid by the renters of the renewed homes is then shared to the investors.

The investors can also sell their homes to the firm and turn that cash into investment. Black residents are involved in all the financial processes as a way of enhancing the neighborhood that had been lost.

Andrew sees a diversified neighborhood living together peacefully in twenty years’ time. David hopes that this new definition of a developer is seen.

A person doesn’t need to be a millionaire or a billionaire to be a developer.
