Born Anthony Kevin Dungy on October 6, 1955, Tony (as he is popularly known) is a former professional NFL football player and coach in the NFL.

He played professionally and recently became the first African-American coach to become absorbed into the famous Pro Football Hall of Fame, although he had already established a name for himself when he became the first African-American coach to scoop a Super Bowl trophy in the NFL.

Starring as a quarterback first at the University of Minnesota, Dungy also played for the popular Pittsburgh Steelers in San Francisco (49ers). His career ended with the New York Giants.

After several years of experience as an NFL player, Dungy received an invitation to join the coaching team, where he became the coaching assistant for the University of Minnesota, his alma mater.

It only took him one season doing defensive backs before he was requested to return to the league as a coach.

He became a defensive backfield coach in 1982 and was promoted two years later to become a defensive coordinator. Unfortunately, in 1989 he left the Steelers to join the Kansas City Chiefs as their defensive backs coach, and later took over as the defensive coordinator for the team Minnesota Vikings.

While there, his defense was recognized first in the National Football League.
