Baltimore’s Bowler Elvis Dumervil is on a philanthropic mission to restore the deteriorating status of Haiti earthquake victims. The linebacker is building 58 houses (which correspond to his jersey number) in a quest to support the country that is struggling six years after the catastrophic earthquake.
Though he was born in Miami and raised in the United States his entire life, he has returned to his mother’s birthplace to help put things in order. His philanthropic efforts started way back when he started a charity to assist the Haiti victims with humanitarian assistance.
His recent effort of constructing 58 houses has been applauded by many. The project which is estimated to cost him $377,000 is quarterly done and last weekend that he went to witness 28 of the 58 families moving into their new homes. The NFL star is asking his fellow bowlers to join him in constructing more homes for 85,000 people who are believed to be homeless and other 200,000 who live in slum tents.
Dumervil said this is just a start, and if all goes well, he hopes to spearhead the building of more than 250 homes in a new community in Haiti.
