1832 – Samuel Sharpe, Jamaican hero, hanged.

“I wold rather die among yonder gallows, than live in slavery.” ~ Samuel Sharpe

Samuel “Sam” Sharpe, or Sharp, National Hero of Jamaica, was the so called slave leader behind the widespread Jamaican Baptist War slave rebellion of 1832.

1871 – L. Bell patents the locomotive smoke stack

1952 – Champion boxer Marvin Hagler was Born.

Nathaniel “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler was born on this date in Newark, New Jersey. He is famed for his epic bouts with Sugar Ray Leonard.

1973 – Soul Singer, Maxwell was born.

Maxwell has grown over the years, but is one of the defining artist in the Neo Soul Movement. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents are Caribbean and Puerto Rican. He has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards.
