No Weave In My Church Says One Pastor. Is He Going Too Far?

“Pat yo weave, ladies. Pat, yo weave, ladies”, said Beyonce in one of her smash hits, but someone better tell her not in this Pastor’s church.

Pastor A. J. Aamir founded the Resurrecting Faith church in Waco, Texas with a different aim. He actually wants his financially struggling congregation to focus on putting the Lord in their hearts and not hair on their heads. He recently told his female staff and leadership to “come as they are” from now on. They are no longer allowed to wear weaves in the church.

hair weaveEveryone knows black women love to experiment with various hair styles, try new things, be unique and fabulous. However, the Pastor believes many of the hair styles and the wearing of weave indicates low self-esteem. Recently, he told AmericanPreachers.com, “Our black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not. Be real with yourself.”

Admittedly, Pastor Aamir is very conservative in nature. He was raised as a Muslim, but believes hair weave is more than just another style. He feels it is a style that is helping to keep the financially strapped church community in bondage. If they could actually afford the additional expense of weave, then it would be one thing, but it is clear they cannot.

He explained to  AmericaPreachers.com:

“Long hair don’t care. What kind of mess is that? I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not IN their heads.

“I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. “Yet, a 26 year old mother in my church has a $300 weave on her head. NO. I will not be quiet about this.”

Let’s be honest. The Pastor cannot legally ban hair weave from being worn inside of his church or throughout his congregation, but he said he will council his congregation to drop the trend, save their money and come as they are. The Lord loves them as they are and there is no need for weave and hair extensions.

Not sure where you come down on this issue, but I think the Pastor has a point. If our religions and moral leaders are not willing to step up and set the tone for our communities, then who will? If the congregation and the community are indulging in activities that are financially and emotionally killing them, then he has a responsibility to say something to them and advise them in the right direction.

Everyone will not agree, but clearly this Pastor believes he is doing the people of his congregation a favor by banning hair weaves from being worn.

If there will be financial advisor and banks brought to the church to counsel the membership on saving and building up credit or getting a better education for better jobs i would say kudo, however i haven’t read that once. I believe they want them to bring all their coins to the church instead of their hair. Control issues is what i have a problem with. Show me in the word where it Say’s no weave!!! No where, if its not biblical its his believe. I do not wear weave, never have and never will. Not my style but i dont condemn anyone who does. I know a lady that wears it faithfully however i found out she has a condition where her hair wont grow in the top of her head. Pastor stay in your lane, be lead by God, i dont see this being what God says… Members get a personal relationship with the father. He will direct you in all your ways. The word says that…..
