Man Nearly Killed in Shooting Inspired To Become A Doctor and Now Starts A Residency At The Same Hospital That Saved His Life

In 2007 Kevin Morton Jr. was closing up at the Arby’s where he worked. A man stepped out of the shadows as he went to get into his car, the robber shot him in the abdomen leaving him a 10% chance of surviving the night.

Dr. Dharti Sheth-Zelmanski, who was working at Detroit’s St. John Hospital nine years ago, got a code 1 trauma and rushed, getting to work stop the bleeding.

Morton’s bleeding stopped, he survived a 50 day stay and was inspired to change his studies and become a doctor.

He graduated last week fromMichigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, at 31-years-old he will start a residency as a doctor at that very same hospital that saved his life. Dr. Dharti Sheth-Zelmanski was also in attendence at his graduation.
