Killer Mike’s “A Uterus Doesn’t Qualify You To Be President” Quote is NOT CHAUVINISTIC

Last night Killer Mike took to the stage to open the #BERNIE2016 rally at the legendary Morehouse College in Atlanta, a place Mike himself attended.

His powerful speech brought down the house and set the stage for a Bernie, who many argue is the only candidate that really cares about social justice.

During his speech Killer Mike said “a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president”. Of course Clinton’s campaign immediately jumped on this as sexism and by the time you read this I am sure you’ve seen the quote and maybe even felt slightly offended.

BUT the context is hugely missing and if you listen to what Mike said, it’s the opposite of sexism.

Mike is talking about women’s rights and the rights of all the disenfranchised. He clearly believes that Bernie will champion women, the poor, minorities more than a certain candidate who is banking on drawing voters because of her gender.

Many women have been rallying to vote for Clinton because of their common gender, this would be great if Clinton’s campaigns really were progressive for women but Mike, and myself personally, believe that Bernie excels in this field.

Of course it’s about bigger issues that that! Mike was quoting a mentor, teacher, social activist and progressive woman, Jane Elliott!

Mike said “Jane said, ‘Michael, a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States. You have to be, you have to have policy that’s reflective of social justice. Paying women a fair wage is social justice, making sure that minorities have jobs is social justice, ending a bullshit drug war is social justice, making sure our children can go to college is social justice'”
