Denise ‘Vanity’ Matthews has sadly passed away at age 57 as confirmed by a number of people including MC Hammer.

The Canadian singer was probably most well known for being a singer in Prince’s Vanity 6 group while she dated the star. She was also supposed to star in Purple Rain but left before filming started.

In 1982 Vanity’s “Nasty Girl” gave Denise her fame but continued with two more solo albums with Motown and starred in a few black kung fu / karate movies.

After dating Prince she went onto become engaged to Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx but the relationship was said to be marred by heavy drug use on both sides.

Denise struggled with drug addiction and many illnesses over the years but recently became a born again Christian and reportedly opened a ministry.

MC Hammer was one of the first celebs to confirm the sad news Tweeting:

??Today my friend & Sister Denise Katrina Matthews p/k/a #Vanity passed away. She absolutely loved GOD unto salvation. Rest in his Glory ??

It’s not yet unknown how Denise died but she was said to only be 57 years old.

Rest In Peace Denise.
