BOOGIE IN PEACE: Earth, Wind & Fire Founder Maurice White Dies

Maurice White founded the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire back in the 60s. His band went onto produce many of the catchiest tunes of all time. Sadly, White has passed away after a 20+ year battle with Parkinsons.

I personally had the opportunity to see Earth Wind and Fire a few years back at the Auckland Jazz Festival. Although White could not perform with them it was amazing to realise what a legacy this band really had and the energy they exuded, this was founded by White and the band still carry it today.

A statement announcing his passing was posted to Earth Wind & Fire’s facebook page by Verdine White. It read:

“My brother, hero and best friend Maurice White passed away peacefully last night in his sleep. While the world has lost another great musician and legend, our family asks that our privacy is respected as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.

Yours Truly,
Verdine White”

White was 74 years old.

RIP Maurice.
