Hermione was never described by her skim color in the Harry Potter books so the fact that a black actress has been cast to play her in the new original story shouldn’t really raise any eyebrows. However, we know, the movies shaped out view of the clever witch and viewers often expect white as default unless text specifies black.
And, the point is, even if the character was described as white at any point skin color has no affect on the Harry Potter story.
Swaziland-born actress Noma Dumezweni has been chosen to portray Hermione in the stage play Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, an original story set 19 years after the last book.
The play was partly written by J.
K. Rowling and it’s clear that Noma has been picked because se is an amazing actress wth an amazing resume.
She has previously won the prestigious Olivier Award (UK version of a Tony) for her role in “A Raisin In The Sun.”
I’m sure Harry Potter fans are super excited to get this new material!
