“I’m embarrassed that I didn’t come across the information in this book sooner. But that’s white privilege for ya,’ is one of the lines from the Facebook revelation everyone is talking about this week.

Hopefully, you have read Michelle Alexander’s classic book, “The New Jim Crow.” If not, then you have some reading to do because very person in America should read this book.

Alexander eloquently breaks down how the American police force, justice system and legislative branches of Government are continuing the Jim Crow era descrimination and destruction of black and brown people in this country. The book is well written, articulate, researched and informative.

If you watch entertainment shows, you might notice Matt McGorry from a few popular shows like “Orange is the New Black” and “How to Get Away With Murder”. The break out actor and now conscious of his white privilege, Matt McGorry recently read “The New Jim Crow”, shared his feelings via his Facebook page, and almost broke the internet with his honesty.

As you can imagine, responses have been mixed. Some people are stellar support of McGorry’s comments and applaud his honesty and openmindedness to shake the white privilege gaze put on people in this country. And many are appreciating the fact that someone with celebrity, a little money and some name recognition decides to put it on the line to speak out about injustice when they find it.

However, there is another side to this discussion and it is rooted in racism, denial and ignorance. I’ll let you guess who these people are.
