Most people have never completed a rubik’s cube, myself included. The ones that have (including my oldest son) are typically rather mentally intelligent and impressive people. However, the level of ability and amazingness displayed by this artist is something completely different.
In 2010, artist Pete Fecteau created a giant mural commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. out of 4,200 individual Rubik’s cubes. Each one was carefully planned and placed to create one of the most iconic images of the civil rights hero ever.
According to Fecteau, the mural is almost 10 feet tall and almost 20 feet wide. The exact number of cubes used in the creation is 4,242. It took him over 40 hours to complete the arrangement.
The mesmerizing piece was entered into the 2010 ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The title of the project is called “Dream Big” and placed in the top 50 out of over 1,700 submissions.
The top 50? Who and what beat the mosaic titled “Dream Big”?
