La’Darious Wylie, 11, is a hero. His death, however is so tragic, because it was so unnecessary. He died during a hit and run. He risked his own life to save his sister’s life. He was just that kind of kid.
He was waiting for the school bus with his sister Sha’Vonta, when a car swerved off the road towards the two helpless children. La’Darious didn’t think twice. He chose to save his sister from the car, and ended up paying the ultimate price.
La’Darious is a hometown hero, although he’ll never know it. The residents of his town of Chester, North Carolina, held a candlelight vigil for him–a celebration of his life.
People of the city have rallied…and they’re trying to rename the park near where La’Darious died, and played his whole life, in his honor.
The woman who is responsible for this tragedy, Michelle Johnson, was caught. She’s facing up to 25 years in prison. But La’Darious’ mom Elizabeth McCrorey is able to forgive it seems. “I don’t hate her – I just wish she had stopped,” Elizabeth said.
La’Darious’ mom, sister, 5 other siblings, and the whole town will miss this heroic soul.
A GoFundMe page was created to help pay for La’Darious’ funeral costs.
