Day 4: Reading 25 Pages Challenge

Are you still with me? How is it going? Are you finding this to be too easy, more challenging than you thought it would be or something different?

I am 4 for 4 thus far and very excited about getting through the book “The New Jim Crow”. My head is blown completely backwards at this point by this book.

When you think you know and understand, this book helps you realize you have absolutely no idea. Wow!

Thanks UI-I love this idea! In january I read The Twelve Tribes of Hattie by Ayana Mathis, The Round House by Louise Erdrich, Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones and The Night Must Wait by Robin Winter. I just downloaded The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes and Black Women in America by Melissa V. Harris-Perry-so February will be busy & deep!;) The idea of a daily, minimum requirement of reading as a crucial component of healthy, holistic living is critical for our development individually and in community. I know it works, because my husband and I used that concept as one of our foundational premises years ago in our homeschooling “experiment” with our 3 sons. They are now in their 30s-holistically healthy & strong, contributing members of community. You can read about what we learned in our journey (even if you’re not interested in homeschooling;) in my book, Morning by Morning: How We Home-Schooled Our African-American Sons to the Ivy League, Random House, 2003. Reviews are available at http://www.telosinc.org . Peace!
