Philanthropy and giving back to the community are things we value in the black community. Therefore, when our best and brightest make a conscious effort to do these things, UI attempts to shine a spotlight on their good works.
Today, we are proud to report rapper turned actor LL Cool J returned home to Jamaica to motivate the children and pass out some back-to-school giveaways this past Sunday. LL grew up in Jamaica, but has always been there to reach out and assist where he could.
This annual event was set up and organized by none other than World Star Hip Hop. It is the 3rd straight giveaway of this nature by the popular website. The event was held at the Jamaica Colosseum Mall where some 1,600 children received backpacks filled with school supplies.
Also on deck were the rappers Fabulous and Erick Sermon, who helped with hosting the event.
Also, a special performance was given by the teen singer Jayla Marie.

According to organizers, the giveaways seek to help “hundreds of underprivileged children and their families”.
All of this is a part of the philanthropic branch of World Star Hip Hop. We are sure many people were not aware the popular website had a helpful side, but are pleasantly surprised. The website’s founder, Lee “Q” O’Denat was born in Jamaica as well, but never finished high school and wanted to help and encourage local children to stay in school.
Hats off to LL Cool J, Fabulous, Erick Sermon and the people behind World Star Hip Hop for putting on such a great event.
