While many in the black community are living paycheck to paycheck trying to LOOK like a million dollars buying designer clothing and driving expensive cars, this NFL multi-millionaire is doing the opposite.
Ryan Broyles is a wide receiver with the Detroit Lions (#DetroitVsEverybody). You may not know his name, but he was drafted in 2012 and signed a $3.6 million contract with $1.4 million guaranteed. He has money, but he is also focused on a bigger picture.
In an age when NFL players and star athletes are making hundreds of millions of dollars and blowing it all going broke, Broyles is focused on not being one of these statistics. In fact, he wants to ensure his family is well taken care of long after his NFL career is over.
Broyles met with a financial adviser and got some advise that changed his outlook on his new wealth. He was encouraged to spend as he wish, figure out his needs, then set a budget and invest the remaining amount of the money to secure your future.
Time to set an annual budget.

“I didn’t hold myself back at all on those terms,” he told ESPN. “That’s what I tell people when they want to start to invest, I tell them to live your life and see where you stand and then pull back. Don’t pull back without even knowing.”
Broyles and his wife drive Mazdas for daily transportation, can’t be found in the club making it rain, don’t wear flashy clothes and jewelry, but have a solid financial future and will not be seen on the next edition of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series of “Broke”.
Let’s take lesson from this multi-millionaire and live below our means in order to save for retirement and our future.
