It seems the outrage, protest, violence in Baltimore and the frustration nationwide in the black community is finally starting to be heard, felt and respected by the judicial system in America. Lately, officers of the law are being held accountable for their brutality of black people in this country….at least on the surface.
The six officers involved in the murder of Freddie Gray were indicted on charged by the grand jury, according to a prosecutor Thursday. This is good news, but black America and the world should hold their celebration for convictions and changes in policing laws around the country.
Gray was killed after his spinal cord was severed while handcuffed, shackled in a police van on April 12th, 2015. It was said he pleaded for medical attention, but was ignored. He later died in the hospital.
The charges for the various officers different, but range from second-degree “depraved heart”
The charges for the various officers different, but range from second-degree “depraved heart” murder to assault. Yet again, we caution our readership not to celebrate, but to wait attentively as we discover of these police officers will be convicted and sentenced of their crimes.
The time has long passed for the black community to be satisfied or pacified by indictments and tough talk from politicians and legislators. It is time for some action that will reform the violent policing practices in our communities and the weak judicial system when it comes to the police force, but finds every bit of strength to come down HARD on us.
SOUND OFF: Do you think these officers will be convicted and properly sentenced for their crimes against the community?
