Focus

For me, it is really hard to focus on what really matters in America. Especially, the fact that I am an African American male trying to provide a strong future for my family. I mean every opportunity I see on social media, the radio and TV is always the stigma of advertisers that paint a bad image of black males. Don’t get me wrong, there are many positive images of blacks successful doing great things. . Let’s be real about the situation. We fall into the trap of buying things we cannot afford, accept the stereotypes that put on television, accept homosexuality as the norm. I truly believe we are in the “Matrix mindset.” Allowing media to blanket are minds with false information.

The media are driven by the need to make profits and that means great sensitivity to audience tastes and advertiser needs. The majority of the audience and an even greater proportion of the affluent audience is white; programmers and advertisers assume this audience dislikes too much presence, or the unexpected counter-stereotype, of blacks.

I mean I may sound a little left center in my article, but these are only my personal beliefs about the state of black males in America. We rally every now and then when events that affect come up, but ultimately go back to our normal ways like nothing even happened. Let’s suppose we are in the 1930’s through the 60’s where you had no choice but to educate. Nothing was given to us on a silver platter. What would you do then? Would you run, in which I think today’s generation would or would you fight and stand for the beliefs you hold true to yourself. I’m glad we continue to stand firm in our belief system and fight to create more opportunity for us to advance. The fight must go for liberation. This is only my two cents.
