The Short Life Of Public School Superintendents?

by | Jan 19, 2015 | Blog | 0 comments

If you are an African American School Superintendent in an under resourced urban school —WATCH YOUR NECK!! They are coming for you, it is only a matter of time. I see them on the news and in the papers. Other African American educators lament their issues. There are less that 25% of all school Superintendents that are women.

The salaries for this position is highly dependent on the number of children, the resources of the city, and the experience of the Superintendent. Some Superintendents make over $300,000 others make about $98,000. The perks can entail chauffeured cars, houses, tuition and other goodies.

A sizeable number of Superintendents have doctorates. They typically have teaching and central office experience. In under resourced urban areas, Superintendents catch hell unless they already know they are not going to succeed. They deck is stacked against them politically and educationally. Our under resourced children suffer.

It seemed for awhile that every time I picked up a paper there was an African American Superintendent being fired, being indicted, going to jail or on the tube crying and asking for forgiveness.

Let’s review the real data. The real data suggests that what I thought was an inordinate number of African American Superintendents being fired was not true. It patently states, that what I thought was an abundance of African American women Superintendents being terminated. was false.

There are less that 7% of Superintendents being non renewed, fired, terminated or getting the axe. Yes, I am still somewhat in shock. Also, that 7% is inclusive of all minorities. O.k. the number of African America Superintendents just decreased by what 25% of 7%. (That’s me not official).

As an aside we have to be cognizant of the oligarchs with their hand maiden the corporate media dictating our thoughts.

I feel as though I have been tricked.
