Little league sensation Mo’ne Davis was crowned as the best female athlete of the year on Monday by the Associated Press. She became the youngest athlete in history to earn this honor.

Davis rose to national and international fame when she became the first girl to throw a shutout during the Little League World Series last year. She was just 13 years old, but redefined the saying “to throw like a girl.” Davis fastball was clocked north of 70 mph.

Davis has been busy since her run at the Little League World Series. She has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, named the Sports Illustrated Kid of the Year, had her jersey displayed in Cooperstown, home of the baseball Hall of Fame.

As if that wasn’t enough, she met POTUS Obama and family at the White House, marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, starred in a commercial directed by Spike Lee, named one of Time’s 25 most influential teens of 2014, and even had time to present Soul Train’s “Song of the Year” award to Pharrell Williams.

This young lady has been busy, but not too busy to remain an honor student and three sports star. She also competes in soccer and is a standout on the high school’s varsity basketball team. You read that right, she is 13 years old and still in the 8th grade, but playing varsity basketball.

The world is this young ladies and will bend to her desires. Let’s hold up and celebrate our young ladies who are doing the right things, setting the bar higher for the rest of us, and accept the challenge of being a role model and leader for our future.
