Michelle Obama: When I Wake Up In a House Built By Slaves

by | Jun 3, 2016 | Positivity | 0 comments

The First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama, delivered a powerful speech to the 2016 graduating class at New York City Colleges. We all know the United States is known as the Land of the free and the home of the brave, and we can all agree that this country was not founded upon those principles, which is the message Mrs. Obama wanted the graduates to understand.

“When I wake up in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters, two beautiful black young women, head off to school, waving goodbye to their father, the President of the United States…” she wants us to understand that we are no different than she is. She wants us to understand that we can accomplish all things if we truly believe in ourselves. Although the “founding fathers never could have imagined” the day a black man became the president this land we all still have an abundance of opportunities.

Mrs. Obama struck a chord in us with her speech. What a dynamic woman! The next time you question your ability, the next time you doubt yourself think of her speech!
