Mother Rejects $900K in Hush Money To Quiet Lawsuit Against Cops Who Killed Her Son By Shooting Him in the Back

With the rash of police killings of unarmed black men, you may have forgotten the name Darrien Hunt. It is very difficult to keep up these days and remember the names, details and which police officers did the killing.

Darrien Hunt was the 22 year old, black man shot and killed by the Utah police last year. Hunt is bi-racial, but you already know the saying about one drop of black blood. Well, this clearly applies to the police because when they saw any form of melanin, then they apparently feel deadly force was justified.

Susan Hunt begs to different and has filed a lawsuit against the police force that killed her son.

According to the Huffington Post: The suit alleges that the police used excessive force and violated Darrien’s constitutional rights when they confronted him and shot him to death while he was wearing a costume and carrying a metal samurai-style sword, one that his family says was rounded and not an actual weapon. The lawsuit seeks $2 million in damages as well the prioritization of body-cameras and use-of-force training for law enforcement.

Mother Hunt was offered $900,000

Mother Hunt was offered $900,000 in hush money never to mention her son’s name again in public or discuss the details of the case. They call it a gag order, but it is clearly hush money to be quiet and go away.

“To me it was a gag order [that said], ‘Here’s hush money, don’t ever say Darrien’s name again,'” Susan Hunt, mother of Darrien, told Utah’s KSL news about turning down the $900,000 settlement the city offered in response to her wrongful death lawsuit.

“My biggest concern is for the truth to be told,” Susan said.

We are glad to hear Mother Hunt refused the settlement and want justice for her son. No amount of money can bring him back into her life and the anger of living in an area where the killer of her son doesn’t get tried and convicted is something she isn’t willing to accept.
