Historically, the gap between white males and minorities has only grown when it comes to STEM. However, major efforts to push STEM in the black community seems to be gaining some ground. Specifically, this ground has been made in the segment of young black girls.

Success stories, like the one you are about to read, are only going to help nurture our young minds to grow, create and achieve more in the STEM fields.

Let’s be sure to share the story of Maci Peterson in hopes to inspire the next generation of black girls and boys to gain success and achievement in the STEM fields.

Maci Peterson is not your typical young, millennial woman. She is a former Spelman student. She doesn’t feel entitled that the world owes her something. She is a hard working, intelligent go-getter that isn’t waiting around for the world to hand her an opportunity. She is creating them and she started with an app that is sure to save many of us in the near future.

On Second Thought is the brain child and creating of Maci Paterson. The app allows you to take back text messages before it is delivered to the other person. This app is sure to save many people who might accidentally send a message to the wrong person, your mother or someone else.

Sitting down with Black Enterprise, Peterson opened up about the app:

On Second Thought is very easy to use. After downloading the app from the Google Play Store, you go to the app’s settings, set On Second Thought as your default SMS app and determine the length of your “grace period”—up to 60 seconds. The “grace period” is the amount of time you have to swipe left and Ost (recall) a message after hitting “send.”

Another feature in development is “curfew.” It’s for those nights on the town when you know you might have a bit too much to drink. Just go to your On Second Thought settings, determine the time you’d like your “curfew” to start, and all messages you try to send after that time will be held until the next morning. Once the “curfew” expires, you can look back and see which messages you still want to send, and which ones you’re thankful didn’t go through.

According to the tech wonder, Peterson, the app is performing very well in the Google Play store. There are currently over 4,200 users and they are expecting to reach 5,000 mark very soon.
